'True Legend' with True Stunts

Su Qi-Er, a kung-fu master in the early 20th century, has been reprised on screens by a number of actors, including Chow Yun-Fat and Donnie Yen. The latest to take on the role is Chiu Man-Cheuk.

Chiu will play the lead role in the film "True Legend", a biopic of Su Qi-Er, or Beggar Su, directed by Yuen Woo-Ping and due out later this year.

Will Chiu's Su Qi-Er be different from the roles adapted by Chow and Yen before him? A new trailer offers a glimpse of the answer.

As well as Chiu's performance, you can also see how director Yuen tries to enrich the film with dazzling stunts. Yuen is hailed as one of China's best martial-arts choreographers, and was the stunt advisor for the "Kill Bill" series.

Other highlights of the trailer include Zhou Xun, who plays Su's wife, and pop star-turned actor Jay Chou, who appears with white hair. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" actress Michelle Yeoh also makes a brief appearance in the trailer.

"True Legend" also features the late "Kill Bill" star David Carradine.

Su Qi-Er, whose stories were passed down as folk tales, was originally a wealthy kung-fu amateur in the late Qing Dynasty. After losing his fortune because of a conspiracy against him, he devoted himself to martial arts and eventually became a renowned master.

In the 1980s, Chow Yun-Fat played Su Qi-Er in a television series of the same name. Donnie Yen followed in a 1993 film, of which Yuen Woo-Ping was a co-director.
